Your safety comes first
ShineEye helps communities across Nigeria share safety information. It is not an emergency service and does not dispatch responders. In an emergency, move to safety if you can and call 112 or contact the appropriate emergency service directly. Do not delay urgent help while preparing a report.
Report responsibly
Share information you reasonably believe to be accurate and relevant. State what you know, avoid exaggeration and distinguish direct observation from information received from someone else. A category name is not proof that an incident occurred. Do not make false accusations, encourage harassment or reveal information that could put a victim, witness or reporter at risk. Do not confront suspects, pursue people, organise vigilante action or obstruct responders. Capture evidence only when it is safe and lawful.
Protect privacy and dignity
Avoid publishing private addresses, identification documents, phone numbers, vehicle details or identifiable images unless their inclusion is necessary, proportionate and lawful for the report. Take particular care with injured people, victims of domestic violence and children. Do not upload nudity, sexual content or graphic abuse, including material presented as evidence. Do not post unnecessary graphic injury images or material intended to shock, humiliate or exploit another person. Use the reporting tools to flag unnecessary or harmful personal information. Reporter identity is not displayed in public alert views, but details within a report may still identify a person.
Missing children and other sensitive incidents
If a child is missing or at immediate risk, contact the police or emergency services directly. A ShineEye report is not a substitute for an official missing-person report. Share only details necessary to help identify the child safely. Do not publish home addresses, school details, private family contact information or sensitive medical or abuse details unnecessarily. Do not claim to be a parent, guardian or official representative unless that is true. If you believe you have found a missing child, contact the appropriate authorities. Do not arrange a private handover based only on a ShineEye post or publish the child's current precise location. Provide relevant updates through safe channels and request removal of identifying material when it is no longer needed.
Child safety standards
ShineEye and its operator, TECHWITHLEE, prohibit child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) and child sexual abuse material (CSAM). For these standards, a child is anyone under 18. You must not create, request, upload, distribute, promote or facilitate material or conduct that sexually abuses, exploits or endangers a child. This includes grooming, sexual extortion, trafficking for sexual
exploitation and sexualised depictions of children, including computer-generated material. Claiming that material is news, evidence or a warning does not make prohibited material acceptable on ShineEye. If you encounter suspected abuse material, do not download it, forward it or upload another copy. In the app, use Report this alert or Report this evidence where available. You can also email support@shineeye.ng with the alert link or identifier and a brief description of the concern. Do not attach suspected abuse material or include unnecessary identifying information about the child. When we obtain actual knowledge of CSAM on ShineEye, we remove it from user access and take appropriate action under applicable law. We preserve only information that is lawfully required for an investigation or reporting obligation, with restricted access. We report confirmed CSAM to the appropriate regional authority or the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, as applicable, through the appropriate lawful reporting channel. We may restrict or terminate accounts involved in child exploitation and cooperate with lawful investigations. TECHWITHLEE's child safety contact can be reached at support@shineeye.ng. A designated representative is responsible for child safety escalations and communications with Google Play. Do not rely on a support message for emergency assistance. If a child is in immediate danger in Nigeria, call 112 or contact the police directly.
Community responses and statuses
Use Confirm, Deny or Not sure honestly. Respond only when you meet the applicable eligibility rules. Do not coordinate false responses or imply that your response is an official determination. A community verification label reflects ShineEye's process. An admin verification label reflects moderator review. Neither means police confirmation. A report's severity, age or expiry does not by itself establish its accuracy or whether an incident has ended.
Moderation and complaints
We may remove or restrict reports and evidence that breach these rules, expose people to harm or violate law. We may also restrict accounts. A temporary restriction may be applied while a concern is reviewed. To report a concern or ask for a moderation decision to be reviewed, use the available app tools or email support@shineeye.ng. Include an alert identifier and a concise explanation. Do not attach suspected abuse material. Review requests are assessed in context; they do not guarantee that content will be restored.
